REALISATION: Blog entry 33

Made a new pattern before it's even lunch time...I say new, just the black and white version of the one that I was meant to be making.
Here's some screen grabs of this pattern, and the individual images...now to start experimenting with all the variations, and come to a decision about which one I am going to use.
Yesterday, I was really pleased with the colour version of this pattern..and I was 95% sure that I would just go with that one, since it came out so well. However, now this one has turned out pretty well too. I just need to get one with the layering of patters and experimentation of printing on to different materials (etc.) and hope that it becomes clear, or at least easier to decide which one I should use for my out come.

Now I have this pattern completed (!!!) I can start experimenting with layering this with my background patterns, and playing with colours and materials...

Will do some more experimentations with different colours (etc.) later, just wanted to get these three in to give an example of the finished patterns.

REALISATION: Blog entry 31

After finally completing all of the individual birds that would make up this pattern (Blog entry 29 - all in one post here, but I spent about three days making these, in between other bits and bobs) I spent this morning/afternoon putting together my stamp for this pattern! It took a lot of rearranging and time spent playing with the composition to ensure that it flowed well, but I finally did it!

Playing with composition..

Now, I'll start combining this wit my background patterns, start experimenting with colours, and printing on different materials. I also still have to make the alternate version of this...the just black and white version. Although, now I've worked out a successful composition, it shouldn't take me as long to put this next pattern together.

Background patterns
I intend to use these patterns as I have in previous experiments, behind my main sparrows pattern (e.g Blog entry 22).
Everything I produce for my outcome will be linked by one main pattern (which I have yet to make/decided on) but the individual things will also differ slightly by use of these background patterns. I intend to use the sparrows in flight on the things such as feeders and food, the flowers on plant seed packets, and the insect in the things that will provide homes for and help draw more insects into the garden.

This use of silhouette is something that I have been working with, and experimenting with since early last semester (examples below)

REALISATION: Blog entry 29

I started making these last week, but didn't post; I'll be continuing with these today, and hope fully making my pattern stamp tomorrow. These are the individual images that will make up this pattern, a combination of two styles I had been working with, and a possibility for my final outcome pattern. This is a combination of these two styles;

I really like the simple black and white images, however, I dont thik that this stands out very well with my background patterns, and I'm not sure how well this will work on the brown paper I intend on using..I will still produce this pattern for the sake of experimentation (I could be wrong) but for now, I'm thinking I will probably be using this pattern...we'll see.

REALISATION: Blog entry 28

I started using this pattern with out much explanation or thought, but the more I have used it, the more important it has become.
When I started working in a simplified style, I struggled with how to tackle the bits of the birds that were multiple colours. This idea worked for birds that were already simple, block colours, such as kingfishers, and herons, but with little brown speckled things, this was more difficult. Looking at the work of Hella Jongorious, and the Royal Crown Derby paperweights, I started using a pattern that  would replicate the shape and texture of the feathers, and their natural pattern.
I like having this reference to natural pattern (camouflage, and natural textures and patterns) within my pattern; I feel like it links the two different types of pattern. The original and natural, from which we have built on to create something of our own. I am using pattern to help conserve nature, and the origin of pattern.

Feathers pattern

I have just been doing this roughly up to now, but now I'm starting to make my final patterns, I thought I'd better start doing it properly. So I made this pattern to use within my final patterns.

REALISATION: Blog entry 27

Did a little experimentation with laying this pattern over the top of my insect background pattern; this looks ok, but have had to make my main patterns lots older to make it stand out against the back ground pattern - I suspect I wouldn't have this issue with the more solid coloured pattern..more work to be done with this.

This is what I will be focusing on this week, creating and choosing my final pattern, and experimenting with all the possibilities for each pattern that will be used in my outcome. By the end of the week I hope to have my final pattern, so that come friday, I can start ordering and making little bits (such as ordering my patterned fabric, and the stickers that will be a little part of the packaging used in my outcome). Then after the concept panel I can focus on making all of the little things that will make up my out come.
